Girls Rugby Club
The Team
A Global Rugby Club
Built by Girls.
For Girls.
We played with the boys until we could no longer, we used changing blocks for men, we wore ill-fitting jerseys and boots too big. We politely laughed off the assumptions that surely it was touch rugby, not tackle. We got used to playing on the number two field and being curtain raiser to the main event. But what we’re witnessing now is a sea-change. We’re becoming recognised for our athleticism, our skill and our ability to entertain out on the pitch. It would make generations of female rugby players gone-by immensely proud and we owe it to them to carry the torch.
The Girls Rugby Club is riding the wave of the changing tide and it’s our mission to bring women’s rugby to the fore. We share a passion for the sport and the people it makes us. Founded by England international and Harlequins centre Rachael Burford, the Girls Rugby Club is about opening doors within the sport and cementing a pathway for the future.
Professional player and England International Inside Centre, Rachael has 80+ England caps for 15s and 22 tournament caps for 7’s. She leads and founded the Girls Rugby Club.
Maryke played rugby for Loughborough Lightning in the Tyrell’s Premier 15s, the top tier women’s rugby union league in England. She is a die-hard All Blacks fan.
A keen rugby player herself with experience of the game, Sabine leads our social media.
Sarah brings a raft of communication, customer service and organisational skills to our team. When not at work, Sarah can often be found at the side of a rugby pitch.
